City to clear homeless encampment near Seattle middle school

A homeless encampment at Miller Playfield near Meany Middle School is expected to be cleared Friday.

KIRO 7 found signs posted Wednesday night around the park informing campers that they will have until early Friday to remove all their belongings.

The Low Income Housing Institute told KIRO 7 that it has available space for people at short-stay hotels leased by the city.

KIRO 7 told you about Miller Park in January, and that is when its crew was threatened by one of the campers there.

However, it has not been made clear how much of a long-term solution that is.

Across town in Ballard, KIRO 7 profiled the trouble Ballard Little League had last month with some homeless people who took over parts of a ball field, even the dugouts.

There were also problems with drugs and syringes.

As for the Miller Park cleanup, the signs indicated everything has to be gone by 9 a.m. Friday morning.
