SEATTLE — Starting Friday night, Seattle Parks and Recreation will temporarily close Alki Beach Park early during the holiday weekend.

From July 2 to July 5, the park will be open from 4:30 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. The park normally closes at 11:30 p.m.

City officials said the temporary closing time change is intended to “deter illegal use of fireworks and to help mitigate illegal activity” during the holiday weekend.

The park has had an increase in public safety issues, which include violence, excessive noise violations, illegal fires and unpermitted events, officials said.

Beach fires are still allowed in designated fire rings but all fires must be extinguished by 9:30 p.m.

Visitors will be asked to leave by 10 p.m.

The park will return to normal hours, 4:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., on Tuesday.
