RAINIER, Wash. — An 18-year-old driver had a close call with a freight train Tuesday morning.

Her car and the train collided at a crossing in the 12600 block of Horizon Pioneer Road Southeast in Rainier, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say though the crossing is not equipped with flashing lights or crossing arms, it is well marked.

The car appears to be a total loss, but the driver escaped with only minor injuries.
