Giant pumpkin squashes competition at local festival

Canadian pumpkin grower Scott Carley won this year’s Skagit Valley Giant Pumpkin Festival with a 1,421.5 pound pumpkin – a whole 120.5 pounds ahead of the second place winner.

But he’s not even close to the world record – a 2323.7 pound pumpkin, grown by Swiss gardener Beni Meier.

The Howard Dill award for the "Prettiest Pumpkin" went to Glen Snodgrass of Lynden, WA. In addition to giant pumpkins, giant squash, sunflowers, morrow, field pumpkins and tomatoes were displayed. Learn more about this competition at the Pacific Northwest Giant Pumpkin Grower's site.
