Fish virus detected in Washington waters

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. — A deadly fish virus was detected in Washington waters for the first time.

The IHN virus was found at a salmon farm in Rich Passage off Bainbridge Island.

The farm will have to kill all the fish.

The virus was recently discovered at two British Columbia fish farms.

IHN is a highly contagious influenza-like virus that does not affect humans.

Washington State fish and wildlife officials are on alert for additional outbreaks in other areas.
