Fire breaks out at Lakewood apartments

LAKEWOOD, Wash. — A fire broke out at an apartment building Saturday afternoon, according to the Lakewood Fire Department.

The fire happened at 3:30 p.m. in the Twin Oaks Apartments in the 4800 block of 115th Street Court Southwest. Witnesses reported plumes of black smoke in the area.

When West Pierce Fire and Rescue arrived, multiple units were engulfed in the flames and firefighters were able to control the fire.

No injuries were reported, but up to 50 residents were displaced. The American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter is currently helping the victims.

According to fire officials, six to eight units were destroyed and over 20 were damaged.

Investigators are still determining the cause of the fire.
