Crews recover body of Snohomish River drowning victim

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — At about 12:30 a.m. Sunday deputies responded to a report of a drowning.

According to the sheriff’s office, the man was in a canoe with other people ferrying them to the sandbar where the group was drinking around midnight Saturday.

At about noon Snohomish County helicopter crew members located the man’s body in about 13 feet of water upstream from the Douglas Bar.

The canoe took on water, spilling three people into a section of fast-moving water.

Crews could not find the 21-year-old man's body and the search resumed Sunday morning.

The body was recovered and released to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said the victim was reportedly intoxicated during the accident and that no one in the canoe was wearing a floatation device.
