Body of missing man from canoe trip found in lake

LAKE LIMERICK, Wash. — Confirmed by the Mason County Coroner, a body found in Lake Limerick on Saturday was of 31-year-old Sheldon Olsen, the man who went missing after a canoe trip with his son.

Olsen went canoeing with his 2-year-old son, Jace, on March 17, and later that evening, they were reported missing because they never returned from their trip.

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office organized a search team and used the department’s three boats and divers to find the two. When responders arrived, the boy was found floating on the lake without a life jacket, but Olsen was still missing.

According to coroner Wes Stockwell, his office was notified around 5 p.m. on Saturday that Olsen’s body was found by a search team working with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

The canoe was recovered and two life jackets were found in the boat, according to the sheriff’s office.

Also on Satuday, a funeral services was held for Jace Olsen.

Stockwell said that an autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.
