MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A barn caught fire early Sunday morning in Mount Vernon.
Fire officials responded to fight the flames at around 8:00 a.m.
The owner reported hearing a crackling noise and looking outside to see the barn burning.
Fire officials say the structure is a total loss.
The barn was located on the rural outskirts of Mount Vernon.
There were turkeys and chickens in the barn; officials say many of the animals escaped on their own.
The fire is under investigation. A cause has not yet been determined.
