70,000 expected during rush hour for Huskies game

SEATTLE — People should prepare for a huge surge in rush hour traffic near the U-District as more than 70,000 people are expected for a Friday night football game between the Huskies and Stanford.

Sound Transit, King County Metro and Uber all have plans to try to accommodate the extra traffic heading to Husky Stadium for the 6 p.m. kickoff.

Friday’s matchup is the first game with two top 10 teams at the stadium in nearly 20 years.

Light rail is a great option to get to the game, with the station only steps away from the stadium.

Sound Transit is adding extra trains on link light rail. There will be seven, two-car trains and 12, three-car trains to handle the crowds.

King County Metro will reroute a number of buses to go through the U- District to accommodate extra rush hour traffic.

There will also be a free shuttle between the U-District link station and Northeast Campus Parkway.

That will run about every 10 minutes.

If you are planning to take Uber, the company is offering trips for half price to and from Friday's game with a promotion code.
