Hundreds gather to honor 5 killed in mall shooting

Monday night, hundreds of people gathered outside a Burlington mall for a vigil to honor five people who were killed there Friday night.

The vigil occurred in the parking lot of the Cascade Mall, just hours after the suspected shooter faced a judge.

Hundreds gathered there last night for an emotional vigil. They took over the parking lot and lined up down the street for blocks, intent on healing the wounds from Friday night with singing, hugging and crying.

Members of the Burlington community, devastated by the killings, promised to help each other heal.

Here are the victims, whose identities will officially be made public today:

  • Sarai Lara, 16
  • Shayla Martin, 52
  • Chuck Eagan, 61
  • Belinda Galde, 64
  • Beatrice Dotson, 95

Prosecutors say Arcan Cetin murdered them with his father’s rifle inside the Macy's store.

Cetin is charged with five counts of first-degree murder and is in the Skagit County Jail on $2 million bail.

Prosecutors say the 20-year-old admitted he walked into the mall and shot all five victims, but he has not provided detectives with a motive.

But he wouldn't elaborate.
