Officers responded to the outside of a home on West Galer Street at Fourth Avenue around 6:15 a.m. Monday. They were trying to serve a search warrant and the man would not come out.

Monday afternoon, police said they no longer believe the person who had been inside with the suspect is related to the suspect.
The juvenile who was inside with the suspect came out of the house about 8:15 a.m. and is safe. The man remained inside. Police are still working to determine the relationship between the man and juvenile.
At one point during the standoff, the man called KIRO 7 and spoke to one of our reporters. He was distraught and talked about killing himself multiple times.
While the man was on the phone with KIRO 7, we called Seattle Police to let them know what was happening.
After the call ended, KIRO 7 talked to the police negotiator to relay information from the phone call. Police eventually entered the apartment and found the man had shot himself. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center. It is unclear when he shot himself, but there is no audible gunshot in the call with KIRO 7.

The principal of nearby St. Anne School, Mary Sherman, sent out the following message to the families of students there:
"There is a police swat team in a stand off with a robbery suspect on Galer St. between 3rd and 5th Ave. I have spoken to police and they said that the suspect has no hostages and they believe it is just a "waiting game".
We will be bringing students directly into the school this morning at drop-off. The police said there is no need for an adjusted schedule. They will keep me posted of any changes. There were people in the area observing what was happening and the police were not restricting them except from the cordoned off area. If you have children who walk that way to school, you may want to accompany them or drop them off this morning."
The standoff ended around 2:25 p.m.
