Shots fired during vigil for Federal Way father

Federal Way police are investigating a shooting at the same site where a father was shot and killed Monday night.

The shooting happened Thursday during a vigil where eight family members of a shooting victim were gathered in the 32800 block of Hoyt Road Southwest.

Five or six shots were fired. The shooters in the Thursday incident were on bikes, witnesses said.

Some bullets hit a nearby house. No injuries were reported.

The vigil was held near where Dennis Sloboda, 32, was fatally shot. Family members tell KIRO 7 that Sloboda, a father of two, came to them on Monday claiming an armed man was following him after a confrontation in northeast Tacoma.

Sloboda's brother told KIRO 7 Monday that the shooter was someone on a red motorcycle that slowed down to stare them down before firing shots.

Police said they were not contacted in the roughly 45 minutes Sloboda said he was followed. Investigators have not arrested a shooter in that case.

Police have not said whether the two shootings are connected.

Sloboda's killing is the fourth unsolved homicide in Federal Way this year.
