The remains of a recently identified sailor, who died during the attack on Pearl Harbor, are on the way to Washington to be returned to family and be buried with full military honors at a Bremerton cemetery.
Navy Lt. Julian B. Jordan, 37, was assigned to the USS Oklahoma, which was moored at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor.
On Dec. 7, 1941, the USS Oklahoma was attacked by Japanese aircraft and by multiple torpedo hits. The vessel quickly capsized. Jordan and 428 crew members died.
According to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, from December 1941 to June 1944, Navy personnel recovered the remains of the deceased crew, which were subsequently interred in the Halawa and Nu’uanu Cemeteries.
In 2015, the DPAA exhumed the remains and were able to identify Jordan through forensic and scientific analysis.
Jordan’s remains will be flown back to Washington on Friday.
Jordan will be buried Monday.
