Police up Alki patrols with for holiday and warmer weather

SEATTLE — Seattle Police are increasing bike patrols and parking a “mobile precinct” at Alki Beach for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

The move comes following a fatal shooting Tuesday that claimed the life of a 23-year-old.

That crime remains unsolved.

Recent gun violence in greater-Seattle since the weather has warmed is generally being blamed on gang grudges.

Friday night bike officers could be seen making repeated laps up and down the sidewalk well into the evening.

The mobile precinct did not appear to be staffed at all time, but was parked by mid-afternoon.

Car patrols along Alki also picked up after about 9:30 when the sun began to set.

The recent violence didn’t seem to scare away the crowds.

Thousands packed the beach prior to sunset and a few hundred mainly younger people lingered after dark for a time.
