Fire envelopes, destroys Capitol Hill home

SEATTLE — An early morning fire destroyed a home in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood overnight.

The Seattle Fire Department first tweeted about the fire in the 1100 block of 13th Avenue, near Union Street, at 1:03 a.m. on Friday.

Firefighters said flames enveloped the home, which was vacant.

The massive fire was so intense that firefighters had to exit the building. Crews had to take a defensive stance, pouring water onto the home from the outside.

A major concern was making sure the fire didn’t spread, and crews hosed down surrounding homes.

Once the fire was knocked down from the outside, firefighters were able to enter the house to put out the remaining flames.

No injuries were reported but the home is a total loss.

Hours later, firefighters continued to look for hot spots as the home continued to smolder.
