Fire burns homes, destroys cars in Beacon Hill neighborhood

SEATTLE — Nine people are without homes after a fire broke out in a carport in South Seattle.

The flames started at about 2 a.m. at a home in 6000 block of 19th Avenue South in the Beacon Hill neighborhood.

The fire in the carport spread to the attached home and then to an adjacent home.

Everyone inside the two homes got out safely.

The damage to both homes has made them uninhabitable. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

In addition to the damage to the homes, two cars were destroyed in the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
