EVERETT, Wash. — Sixty homeless pets from overcrowded shelters in Merced, California got a special welcome to Snohomish County on Valentine's Day, thanks to PAWS (Progressive Animal Welfare Society) in Lynnwood.
Staff and volunteers welcomed the cats, dogs, puppies and kittens at Paine Field yesterday, with kind words, reassured the animals and took the dogs out for a walk.

According to PAWS, the animals will be given medical and behavioral evaluations at the PAWS Animal Companion Shelter in Lynnwood and PAWS Cat City in Seattle.
The adult animals will be available for adoption as soon as Saturday, Feb. 17. The underage animals will be placed into foster homes until they are old enough for adoption.
PAWS says that Northwest shelters have room to accommodate adoptable animals, due to high demand from the local animal-loving community.
At PAWS, dogs and cats are adopted into new homes in an average of five days.
