Crews recover body of missing swimmer in Snoqualmie River

Teen missing after going over the falls near Olallie State Park Sunday.

KING COUNTY, Wash. — King County Sheriff's Office marine divers recovered the body of a 16-year-old who disappeared while swimming with friends in the Snoqualmie River on Sunday.

Officials said Monday they called off the search for the teen. He was presumed to have drowned.

Three teen boys were swimming near Olallie State Park on Sunday night when two of the teens went over the falls. One of the teens was able to make it to shore, but the other boy never surfaced.

Divers spent hours in the river searching while other volunteers searched from the steep banks along the river.

The river is very dangerous with the cold temperature and fast current but divers from the King County Sheriff’s Office Marine Rescue Dive Unit were able to search three pools below the falls on Monday.

The teen was a student at Issaquah High School. He was with two friends from Bellevue Korean Church Sunday when they went swimming above the falls.
