Crown Hill family's belongings lost in Seattle house fire

SEATTLE — Crews worked to put out flames at a home in North Seattle early Monday.

The fire at the home in the 9000 block of 12th Avenue Northwest in the Crown Hill neighborhood was called out at about 3 a.m.

When crews arrived, the home was already well involved with flames shooting from the roof.

Ruben Peck, who lived there with his 92-year-old mother, said he had just sold the home and they were not living there while some work on the house was underway. They were still in the process of moving out.

“Everything I own was in there! Luckily, I had a jacket in my truck. All of my belongings – all of our clothes – and family pictures," said Peck. "(My mother) had books she was working on for family members for years.  It’s all gone."

Firefighter said the fire  inside the home forced them to apply water from the outside, to keep the flames from jumping to other homes nearby.

The home's roof collapsed during the fire fight.

No one was home at the time. One firefighter was hurt after a ground-level fall.

Investigators say the damage to the structure is estimated at $300,000 and damage to contents inside the house amounts to $100,000.

The investigation into what caused this fire is still underway.
