A Black Lives Matter rally is planned for Westlake Park Saturday evening.

Over 2,500 people have said they will attend on the event's Facebook page.

About 14,000 have said they are interested in attending.

"As we watch that hate and racism is alive and well in the United States, we must not only stand up to hate and racism but defeat it, too -- as violence from racists and haters have rained down upon this nation as we seen in Virginia and other parts of this country," the event page reads.

A former U.S. attorney will lead an independent review of Charlottesville, Virginia's response to three white nationalist rallies, the largest of which ended in deadly violence.

Charlottesville leaders are facing scrutiny and anger from residents and activists over how they handled the rallies, which were called in response to a city council vote to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.

A KIRO 7 crew will attend the rally and we’ll stream it live at this link. Watch KIRO 7 News at 8 p.m. for a full report.
