27-year-old Burien dad murdered, detectives look for suspect

King County Sheriff’s detectives are looking for a suspect who shot and killed Kenny Su, a 27-year-old Burien man on Friday.

Family members and friends mourned him during a vigil on Saturday night near where he was shot. They say Su was a dad to three very young children.

“Kenny always put his kids before everybody. Every paycheck he got, he always made sure everybody was good before himself,” said Vana Su, one of his younger sisters.

More than 50 people attended the vigil and some family members were very emotional as they laid out candles and balloons on the spot where Su died.

The King County Sheriff's Office says on Friday night around 10:40 p.m. Su was talking with a group of men when a fight broke out.

One of the men involved in the fight pulled out a gun and shot Su, killing him.

Kareen Baggett says she was nearby and heard about six gunshots. She ran over to try and help, but it was too late.

“He was laying on his back. His eyes were open but they were not looking at anything. I kept trying to get his eye contact and there was just no eye contact,” Baggett said. She says she’d met Su before, but didn’t know him well.

“He was just happy 10 minutes before that, laughing, joking around, and then his life was just gone. One minute to the next, life death,” Baggett said.

She started the makeshift memorial at the location where Su died, and family members added to the memorial throughout the night. During the vigil, family members sang Su’s favorite song and prayed together.

“The best thing about my brother, he always kept his head up no matter what,” said Izayah Su, his younger brother.

“He loved us, he always put us before himself, and I think that’s what made him such a great guy,” said Jazzlyn Su, another one of his younger sisters.

The Sheriff's Office brought out a helicopter and K-9 teams to search for the men Su was talking with on Friday night, but were not able to locate them.

The suspect ran away on foot. Witnesses describe the suspect as wearing a red hooded sweatshirt at the time of the shooting.

Detectives are asking anyone with relevant information to call the Sheriff's Office.
