Spotty showers of rain for the lowlands Thursday

Jan. 27 - We’ll have a few light showers moving through tonight into early Thursday. A look at aircraft observations in and out of  Sea-Tac Airport on Wednesday mid-afternoon show the freezing level has risen substantially, thus the snow level is well above 1,500 feet and will stay there tonight. Even though temperatures will be in the mid to upper 30s in the morning, the warmer air aloft will keep any light snow showers in the mountains only.

I expect some drying Thursday afternoon and some sun as well. Highs will be a little warmer than they have been – in the upper 40s around the Seattle region.

We could have a few light pockets of rain Thursday evening into Friday morning but little to no impact, and there will be some sunshine on Friday.

A more substantial weather system arrives later in the weekend and we’ll get some pockets of rain to move in during Saturday with rain increasing Sunday. It will be pretty soggy to end the weekend and to begin next week. Snow levels will be around 2,500 feet for some decent snow in the Cascades through the period – but nothing extremely heavy. Still, pass travel will get a little difficult at the times of heavier snowfall, particularly Sunday and Sunday night.

After rain tapers by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week, we could be in for an extended dry stretch with morning fog, some sunshine and temperatures near average for the beginning of February.
