More rain and wind on the way this week

Dec. 15, 6 p.m. - We’ll get a very brief break from the weather action tonight into Wednesday but still some pockets of rain here and there and some snow showers in the mountains will continue into tonight. Snoqualmie Pass has switched to some light rain and the snow levels will be just above that pass overnight and through Wednesday so while some snow will mix in at times, we’ll probably have minimal further problems tonight through Wednesday on I-90.

The next weather system blows in here tomorrow around midday with more rain and some breezy conditions – much like what we experienced today. Locations in the mountains above Snoqualmie Pass (like Stevens and the higher passes and resorts) will pick up 2-6 inches of snow with this next system. There are no advisories or warnings for snow in the mountains however. It won’t likely be too bad.

Rainfall in the lowlands will be in the quarter to half-inch range for Puget Sound with more at the coast. Winds will top out in the midday to late-afternoon hours of Wednesday in the 25-35mph range.

Another brief break Wednesday night into Thursday but we’ll get some rain at times.

By Friday afternoon, we’re seeing plenty of rain once again and breezes return to the area. This is the start of a moderate atmospheric river event that lasts for several days. We will see rising snow levels in the mountains (meaning more rain than snow) starting late Friday into Saturday, and rivers will rise up – possibly nearing flood level on some of our river systems. One thing we’re looking for is a relative break in the action on Sunday before more rain on Monday.

Hopefully by late Monday/Tuesday of next week, we’ll be entering into a drier weather pattern to take us into Christmas. However, these longer-range projections can’t be counted on at this point, but we’re starting to see some signs that weather could get nicer after the start of next week.
