(2/4) Expect snowy travel in Cascades Friday afternoon and evening

A Winter Weather Advisory is out for Friday afternoon and evening in the central and north Cascades with snow levels around 3,500 feet. At Snoqualmie Pass, a rain-snow mix could bring 3-5 inches of snow with more at Stevens Pass and Mount Baker with six inches to possibly a foot of new snow by the weekend.

In the lowlands, we’ll have some rain moving shore at the Pacific beaches by before daybreak Friday and this rain moves inland quickly. We’ll have rain around Puget Sound by mid-late morning. After noon and a frontal passage, the rain will turn to more sporadic showers across the area. There will likely be a Puget Sound Convergence Zone with some heavier rainfall in and near Snohomish County through the afternoon and into Friday evening. The eastern extension of this heavier band of precipitation will be aimed at Stevens Pass, thus the higher snowfall total possibilities there.

Rain in the lowlands and mountain snow showers will be winding down overnight Friday into Saturday morning as high pressure builds over the area. We could still have a few isolated areas of sprinkles or drizzle Saturday morning, especially north of Seattle but for most of us, Saturday will be dry with increasing amounts of sunshine.

On Sunday, we’ll have plenty of sun but will likely contend with some early-day fog in spots. Highs both weekend days will be in the upper 40s to around 50 with lows in the 30s.

Some light rain could pass by Monday into early Tuesday before an extended dry stretch that could last well beyond next week.
