(1/31) Wet snow could mix with rain Tuesday morning

In the Cascades, a Winter Weather Advisory has been extended through Tuesday morning above 1,000 feet in elevation for continued snow showers. Another 1-5 inches of snow is expected in the central and south Cascades through the morning hours tomorrow.

Closer to home, expect a few isolated rain showers tonight but a better chance of precipitation comes Tuesday morning in locations mainly from Seattle northward. Most lowland areas will have rain in these spots but we could see some wet snow mix in early Tuesday, especially above about 300 feet elevation and away from large bodies of water. I’m not expecting any accumulation of note and temperatures will remain mainly above freezing so we shouldn’t have any travel impacts, but it bears watching.

We’ll see any precipitation taper through the afternoon. Highs will be cool – mainly in the upper 30s and low 40s and we will still see some sunshine.

Wednesday will feature a more robust band of precipitation moving through, concentrated in locations north and east of Seattle. Snow levels will be below 1,000 feet during this time so any heavier bouts of precipitation could have some wet snow once again. Like on Tuesday, lowland accumulations are unlikely, but we’ll be watching for any brief issues, mainly on less well-traveled roadways north of Seattle and nearer the Cascades. Morning lows will be below freezing Wednesday morning so we’ll watch for any spotty areas of ice and highs will be around 40.

We’ll warm up a bit Thursday and Friday with a few spotty rain showers and mountain snow showers. Highs will be in the mid to upper 40s.

Next weekend looks mainly dry with some sun.
