(11/26) More river flooding this weekend

It’ll be mainly dry through this evening though there will be a few sprinkles around into tonight. It will remain relatively mild with temperatures remaining in the mid to upper 40s into early Saturday.

The second of three atmospheric river events – and the one of greatest impact to our area rivers – arrives Saturday morning with rain continuing through Saturday night and Sunday. Snow levels will be pretty high so it’ll be just rain at the passes with the Olympics and North Cascades getting 3-6 inches of rain this weekend while the lowlands will get between one and two inches of rain (a little more at the coast, a little less from Everett to Port Townsend).

This amount of rain will push our rivers higher with minor flooding expected by Sunday and Monday on many rivers, moderate flooding on the Skokomish, Snoqualmie and Nooksack rivers and major flooding on the Skagit River with the crest at Concrete Sunday and at Mt. Vernon Monday morning. It does not appear the flooding on the north Cascades rivers will be to the magnitude of what was experienced earlier this month, but still notable for sure. Also, with the additional rain, the risk increases of landslides across the area.

It also will be breezy on Saturday with winds over 30mph in gusts across the north and in the 20-30mph range elsewhere. With the soggy ground, we could see some trees come over where winds are strongest.

Highs this weekend will be quite warm – ten degrees above average with daytime temperatures in the upper 50s to near 60.

We’ll get a brief break on Monday then some more rain Tuesday with the third atmospheric river, though it appears the most rain will be north of the Canadian border. Following a few showers Wednesday, colder and drier air sets in for Thursday into next weekend with a few days without rain and highs back in the 40s.
