Over 67,000 expected at Lumen Field as Sounders look to make history in CCL Final

SEATTLE — Over 67,000 fans are expected to fill Lumen Field Wednesday as the Seattle Sounders are looking to become the first team in the 28-year history of Major League Soccer to win the Concacaf Champions League Final.

The team goes up against Liga MX’s Pumas UNAM at 7 p.m.

This is the first time the Sounders have advanced to the finals of the CONCACAF Champions League in club history and a win would vault Seattle onto the world stage, where they would compete with teams including Chelsea FC and Real Madrid in the FIFA Club World Cup.

With huge crowds anticipated to attend Wednesday’s game, Sounders FC is strongly urging fans to arrive early and prepare for more traffic in the area than usual.

Gates will open at 5 p.m., 30 minutes earlier than for a typical Sounders home game.

Pre-match festivities including a pregame concert, bar pop-ups and food trucks, and interactive games and activities are scheduled for fans who arrive early.

The club has surpassed an attendance of 60,000 fans on eight total occasions at Lumen Field, with Sounders FC playing to an unbeaten 7-0-1 record.
