ONLY ON KIRO 7: Security guard assaulted in Westlake Park

SEATTLE — A 13-year-old is accused of being a part of a vicious attack on a Seattle security guard.

Dajohntae Richard was in juvenile court today for his role in the assault that left Joey Crudo unconscious at Harborview Medical Center.

Crudo is a security guard at the Seaboard Building condos. On July 19 he saw two women distracting a man so a third woman could steal from his backpack. Crudo shouted out a warning to the man and then the crowd turned on him. He says Richard tried to grab his wallet during the attack. Crudo was beaten and punched. He was unconscious and rushed to Harborview Medical Center.

Crudo says he got a good look at the teen who grabbed his wallet.

"That wasn't the first time I've seen that kid in this park. From his behavior and the way he acts, it scares me. I've never seen anyone like him," said Crudo.

The teen was identified by the park ranger at Westlake days after the assault. The ranger called police who contacted the 13-yearold.

It wasn't until Wednesday that police showed a photo montage to Crudo and had him pick out the attacker. He picked Richard.

Richard was released to his mom in court on Friday. He'll be required to register for electronic home monitoring on Monday and will be back in court next Wednesday.

Crudo said he was sad a teenager was involved in the violent assault that changed his life.

"I feel more paranoid. I used to think people are innately good. Now I can't live that way," said Crudo.
