Woman unwittingly carried winning $1.4 million lottery ticket around for a month

An Australian woman carried around a winning lottery ticket for a month, unaware she won a $1.4 million jackpot.

Because her TattsLotto ticket entry was unregistered for the Jan. 9 drawing, the gaming group had no way to contact her.

So, the agency waited.

The woman, who has not been identified, learned she won Monday.

“I feel like I am going to wake up from a dream,” she said. “How can this be real? It certainly doesn’t feel real. I just keep thinking, ‘This is a dream, this is all just a dream.’ It’s a dream come true.”

She only found out because she went to buy a ticket for the drawing this week and stumbled upon the older ticket. She had the clerk check it and found out she won $1,428,571.43.

“The first thing I will do is pay off my mortgage,” she said. “I am going to get myself a few diamonds as well. I am working right now, but tonight, I am definitely going to be spoiling myself to something nice for dinner to celebrate.”
