West Virginia man accused of attacking greeter at Walmart

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. — A West Virginia man is accused of attacking a greeter at a Walmart, authorities said.

Joshua Allen Adkins, 32, of Ona, was charged with battery and malicious wounding, according to Cabell County online booking records.

According to a criminal complaint, Adkins entered the Walmart store in Barboursville and attacked the greeter standing near the exit, WSAZ reported. Police said Adkins struck the greeter nearly 15 times until the man fell, the television station reported.

Adkins then got on top of the man and continued to punch him before leaving the store and driving away in his vehicle, WSAZ reported.

According to deputies, the victim was not related to Adkins and had never seen him before, the television station reported.

Cabell County Sheriff Chuck Zerkle said there was no indication Tuesday as to what started the incident, The Herald-Dispatch of Huntington reported.

Deputies arrested Adkins, who is being held in the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville, the newspaper reported. His bail was set at $51,500.
