A photo shared by Pittsburgh Public Safety in a news release shows the vehicles were damaged beyond repair. Investigators said in the news release that the cruisers were found engulfed in flames just after 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

“Those vehicles were fully engulfed in flames and it’s pretty safe to say those are going to be a total loss,” Amanda Mueller, a spokesperson for Pittsburgh Public Safety, told WPXI.

Mueller told WPXI that the cars were intentionally set on fire while they were parked outside of the police department’s training facility on the city’s North Side. Investigators said they plan to use video from privately owned surveillance cameras to track down the person who set the fire.

Nobody was hurt, and there was no damage to the nearby building.

Mueller told WPXI that the department was not aware of any threat prior to the incident.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is investigating.
