Tennessee man accused of threatening hospital staff with belt

MADISONVILLE, Tenn. — An East Tennessee man is accused of threatening to hit hospital workers with his belt, authorities said.

Jimmy Robert Rogers, 32, of Niota, was arrested May 10 and charged with disorderly conduct, according to Monroe County online court records.

According to the Sweetwater Police Department, witnesses said Rogers was standing in the parking lot of Sweetwater Hospital and was cursing hospital staff members, The Advocate & Democrat of Madisonville reported.

According to an arrest affidavit, Rogers was escorted back to his hospital room. Sweetwater police Officer Chris Corona said he spoke to a nurse, who said Rogers had removed his belt and threatened to hit staff members.

When Corona tried to persuade Rogers to change into a hospital, the man began cursing hospital staff members, The Advocate & Democrat reported.

Rogers was arrested and booked into the Monroe County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, according to online court records.
