Oh, 78, the first South Korean to win a Golden Globe award for best supporting actor in a series, was indicted on Thursday, Variety reported. He was released without detention on Friday, according to the entertainment news outlet.

According to prosecutors in Suwon, South Korea, Oh allegedly inappropriately touched a woman in 2017.

The alleged victim filed a complaint against Oh in December 2021, Variety reported. Authorities closed the case in April 2022 but reopened it again at the victim’s request, according to the Yonhap news agency.

“Squid Game” is a popular Netflix series that tells the story of people in debt who compete for a large cash prize in a deadly series of children’s games, according to IMDb.com. Oh plays a kindly foil among a cast of people bent on violent self-interest, Variety reported. His performance earned him a Golden Globe Award for best supporting actor in a series, miniseries or television film. He also won a Primetime Emmy nomination for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series.

Oh plays the oldest participant in the survival competition, the BBC reported.

He has denied the charges against him, The Guardian reported.

“I just held her hand to guide the way around the lake,” Oh said in a statement he shared with Korean broadcaster JTBC. I apologized because (the person) said she wouldn’t make a fuss about it but it doesn’t mean that I admit the charges.”

Oh was born in 1944 in Kaesong, now part of North Korea, according to Variety. He moved with his family into the U.S.-controlled South after the 38th parallel became a dividing line. Oh began acting professionally in 1967 and has spent most of his career in live theater.
