Recall alert: Ford recalling nearly 500K midsize SUVs for brake issue

DEARBORN, Mich. — Ford Motor Co. announced three separate recalls affecting nearly half a million vehicles in the United States, the largest of which addresses a defect that may cause brake fluid leaks that could ultimately increase the risk of crashes.

The first recall affects 488,594 midsize SUVs, including the 2015 to 2018 Ford Edge and the 2016 to 2018 Lincoln MKX, Car and Driver reported.

Specifically, the affected vehicles have a front brake jounce hose that can rupture, leading to fluid leakage. All of the vehicles were built at the company’s Oakville Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada, but no reports of accidents or injuries resulting from the defect have been reported, Ford stated.

The first recall also affects an additional 62,876 vehicles in Canada and 7,140 in Mexico, Fox Business reported.

Ford also announced two significantly smaller recalls involving separate issues with different makes and models, the network reported.

The first of the smaller-scale recalls affects certain 2020 Lincoln Corsair vehicles that “may have insufficient clearance between the left and right rear coil springs and the toe link bracket.”

According to a statement, this defect could result in the wearing away of the coil spring’s protective coating potentially leading to it fracturing and coming off of the vehicle and creating a hazard for other cars on the road.

All of the vehicles affected by the second recall – including 2,965 U.S. vehicles, 491 in Canada and 141 in Mexico – were built at Ford’s Louisville, Kentucky, plant between Jan. 7, 2019, and Oct. 21, 2019, Fox Business reported.

The final recall affects 2020 Ford F-150 trucks built at the Kansas City Assembly Plant in Missouri between June 30, 2020, and July 1, 2020. Ford statedthat the 431 affected trucks may have an improper attachment nut fastening the positive battery cable that could result in an insecure connection to the starter, leading ultimately to a fire though none have been reported.

Ford also stated no reports of injury or accidents related to either of the smaller recalls have been reported.
