Rapper Megan Thee Stallion says she was shot, is ‘grateful to be alive’

LOS ANGELES — Megan Thee Stallion is recovering after she was hurt in a shooting over the weekend, she said.

According to The Associated Press, the rapper, born Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, shared the news in an Instagram post Wednesday, saying she wanted to "to set the record straight" after news circulated that she had been injured in Los Angeles.

"On Sunday morning, I suffered gunshot wounds as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me," the 25-year-old wrote. "I was never arrested; the police officers drove me to the hospital where I underwent surgery to remove the bullets."

She added that she is "incredibly grateful to be alive" and expects "to make a full recovery."

"It was important for me to clarify the details about this traumatic night," she continued. "I'm currently focused on my recovery, so I can return back to my life and back to making music as soon as possible."

On Sunday, Los Angeles police stopped Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, in his SUV and arrested him on a felony concealed weapons charge after gunshots were reported in the Hollywood Hills, according to the AP. Entertainment outlet TMZ initially reported that Megan, who was in Lanez's vehicle, had suffered a cut to her foot. The report did not say she had been shot.

Lanez, 27, was taken into custody and released after posting $35,000 bail, Variety reported.
