State Police said Donald Cassidy, 54, reported his 2010 GMC Acadia stolen Feb. 15, WTAJ reported.

Investigators searched and later found the charred vehicle in the woods. It had been badly burned and was nearly unrecognizable. However, its vehicle identification number was still visible and was determined to be Cassidy’s.

Investigators said they later searched Cassidy’s phone and its internet search history to find a query for “how to set your car on fire and make it look like an accident.”

Cassidy was later arrested and charged with arson, false reports and risking a catastrophe, police said.
