One-arm golfer makes hole-in-one at PGA Tour event

An amateur golfer recorded the shot of the day during Thursday’s rounds of the PGA Tour American Express 2020.

Laurent Hubertise, a Canadian golfer born with one arm, sank a hole-in-one on the fourth hole, a par 3, 151-yard shot during the pro-am event.

Hubertise celebrated the shot by throwing his hat in the air to a roar of cheers.

Hubertise was playing with three-time PGA Tour winner Troy Merritt and tour winner Greg Chalmers.

“It landed around the front of the green and we were all watching it closely as it tracked toward the hole and then bang, it disappeared,” Chalmers told the PGA. “We all went up in celebration and Laurent went ballistic and maybe let out a few choice words, but who could blame him? It was an incredible shot.”

Hurbertise was born without most of his right arm. That has not held him back. He started playing golf when he was 11. He has played multiple times in this tournament, as well as other PGA events.

Sports are a way for him to assimilate and inspire.

"People have differences and handicaps and whatever, but it was my way to prove that I could be as good as everybody else,” he told Mojave Desert News in 2018. “It does feel fulfilling when someone tells me they’ve been inspired to play a sport because of me.”
