The Air Force said the subscale BQM-167A drone found at Ocean Ridge Hammock Park is used as an aerial target during weapons training and was likely shot down two or three months ago, WPLG reported.

“I saw it coming down from my car and he comes running back up and he’s like, ‘Hey, there’s a bomb on the beach or there’s a missile on the beach.’ I was like, ‘What do you mean?’” Jeremiah Gonzales told WPLG.

It was likely not recovered at the time it was shot down because of the weather, the Air Force said.

Ocean Ridge police said they are following the instructions on the drone for what to do if it is found.

“As long as it’s out here, we’ll be out here with it,” Hal Hutchins told WPTV. “But, as you can see, it is safe for people to be around. We’ve assured everyone that it is safe. We’ve been assured by the sheriff’s office and the Air Force that there is no danger to anyone going near it.”
