Michigan auto worker stabbed by co-worker during break, police say

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. — A line-cutting incident that simmered for nearly a week led to the stabbing of a worker at a Michigan auto plant late Monday, authorities said.

A dispute between two workers at the Fiat Chrysler assembly plant in Sterling Heights began when one man cut in line at a turnstile, WDIV reported.

The workers were arguing again Monday when one man stabbed the other in the plant’s parking lot during a lunch break, MLive.com reported.

The victim was originally listed in critical condition, but was upgraded to stable condition, the website reported.

The assailant, a 26-year-old man from Sterling Heights, originally fled the scene but was in custody by Tuesday night, WDIV reported.

In an email to the television station, a spokesperson for the automobile plant wrote, “There was an altercation between two employees outside the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant tonight, resulting in one employee being stabbed. The employee was taken to the hospital for further treatment. The incident is being investigated by the Sterling Heights Police Department.”

The police investigation is ongoing, MLive.com reported.
