Man recounts bear attack that happened inside home

ASPEN, Colo. — When a man woke up to strange noises, he probably never thought it was a bear.

But that’s exactly what Dave Chernosky said he found when he went to investigate, ABC News reported.

It all happened around 1:30 a.m. Friday.

Chernosky said he was asleep when the noise woke him up. That’s when he discovered a large black bear in the living room of a friend’s home where he and his family had been staying, KMGH reported.

He said his first thought was of his kids who were in the basement, ABC News reported.

Chernosky said he wanted to keep the large animal, which he said weighed about 450 pounds, upstairs, away from his children. As he tried to get the bear to leave, Chernosky said the animal took a swipe at him, ABC News reported.

The bear eventually left.

Chernosky had to be taken to an area hospital to have cuts to his cheek, jaw, ear and back stitched together, KDVR reported.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials found the bear and had to euthanize it because of the attack, KDVR reported.
