Man arrested after shooting at officer sitting in patrol car

DECATUR, Ill. — A police officer was in his patrol car in a church parking lot Friday night completing paperwork when a man drove up and shot at him, investigators said.

The Decatur police said the officer was not injured when he was shot at around 10:45 p.m., WAND reported.

The officer pursued Marcus Boykin, who pointed a handgun at officers as they tried to get him to pull over. An officer fired at Boykin, 29, but did not strike him.

Boykin was arrested and charged with attempted murder of a police officer, aggravated assault of a police officer, possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated fleeing and eluding police and aggravated driving under the influence, according to police.

The officer that fired his weapon was placed on administrative leave, which is department policy.
