The Clayton County Police Department said in a news release that the 86-year-old woman had been sitting in a car outside the Lucky Food Mart just before 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, when Taron Williams, 33, jumped into the car and stole it.

Surveillance obtained by WSB-TV showed a man — dressed in all tan, wearing red-and-black shoes, and carrying a black backpack — who appears to speak with the victim in the car. The video shows the man getting into the driver’s seat and driving away from the store.

Police said that while detectives were speaking with the victim’s family, the elderly woman was found at an Atlanta restaurant.

Phillip McCurry, the victim’s son, told WSB-TV that his mother had been with her caregiver when the car was stolen. The caregiver had run into the store to pick something up, and that was when the car was stolen.

“Very relieved that we got her back safe and sound,” McCurry told WSB-TV. “I was very concerned. Just didn’t really know. The unknown is pretty scary. But I have a lot of faith in the Lord.”

Williams was arrested in DeKalb County, after a tip was called in by someone who had seen the suspect and stolen car at a restaurant.

Williams was charged with kidnapping and felony theft by taking a motor vehicle.
