Idaho mom of 2 missing children found with new husband in Hawaii

KAUAI, Hawaii — The mother of two missing children was found Sunday in Hawaii, and police have ordered her to produce her daughter and son, who have been missing since September, authorities said.

According to police in Rexburg, Idaho, Lori Vallow Daybell, and her new husband, Chad Daybell, have refused to disclose the whereabouts of 17-year-old Tylee Ryan and 7-year-old Joshua “JJ” Vallow, the Idaho Statesman reported.

Police are also investigating the deaths of the couple’s former spouses, the newspaper reported.

The couple was pulled over and served with a vehicle search warrant by Kauai Police officers Sunday afternoon after they entered the parking lot of Kauai Beach Resort, EastIdahoNews.com reported.

The couple’s rental car was seized, but they were not arrested, Hawaii News Now reported. Police also went to the Daybells’ townhome in Princeville and executed a search warrant on the property, EastIdahoNews.com reported.

Lori Vallow Daybell’s attorney, Sean Bartholick, told NBC News she had been served the order.

The statement said Vallow and Daybell had been “staying on Kaua‘i for an unconfirmed period of time,” and a search warrant had been served on them and their vehicle.

“KPD’s desire is to continue to assist the Rexburg police in whatever way we can with their efforts to locate the missing children,” Kaua‘i Police Chief Todd G. Raybuck said in a statement. “It’s our sincere hope that the children have a safe return.”

According to EastIdahoNews.com, the couple was also given a child protection order on behalf of the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office on Saturday. The couple was directed to bring the two children to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare by Thursday or face legal action, the website said..

Joshua Vallow was described as a child with special needs who had been adopted by Lori Vallow. In a missing persons flyer, officials warned he might need medical attention.

Lori Vallow’s previous husband, Charles Vallow, died July 11, 2019, after being shot by her brother, according to KSAZ-TV. The shooting was determined to be in self-defense and no charges were filed, The Arizona Republic reported. The couple was estranged at the time of Charles Vallow’s death, KSAZ reported.

Daybell and Vallow married shortly after Daybell’s wife, Tammy Daybell, was found dead Oct. 19, 2019, according to KSTU. Investigators initially said Tammy Daybell died of natural causes, but have since exhumed her body and called death suspicious, the television station reported.

Family members told KSTU that Lori Vallow joined what they described as a religious doomsday cult with Chad Daybell, a self-published author whose work focuses on religion, the end of the world and near-death experiences.
