A Hy-Vee store in Nebraska set a world record, creating the largest ice cream sandwich, KETV reported.

Thirty workers at the store in Plattsmouth took five hours to create a 2,960-pound sandwich that measured 35 feet long, Hy-Vee said in a news release Friday. It was later divided into smaller pieces and donated to the Food Bank of Lincoln and the Food Bank for the Heartland, according to the Lincoln Journal-Star.

A Guinness World Records adjudicator was at the site to watch the attempt and witness the weighing of the hefty treat. If verified, it will smash the current record by 500 pounds.

That record is also owned by a Hy-Vee store, according to Guinness. On Feb. 27, 1998, workers at a Hy-Vee in Dubuque, Iowa, created a 2,460-pound sandwich, the website reported.

The ice cream was donated by Hiland Dairy, and the trailer for assembly and transport was provided by Quandt Transport Service, Hy-Vee said in its news release.

“We are thrilled to have achieved this ‘Guinness World Record’ title today, but most importantly, we want to create awareness about hunger across our community,” Jeff Quandt, Hy-Vee’s district vice president in the company’s west region, said in a statement. “At Hy-Vee, we are currently raising funds to donate 5 million meals to help families who are food insecure this holiday season. We hope this record-breaking ice cream sandwich draws attention to the cause, as well as helps local food banks who are assisting those in need.”

The sandwich was displayed at the Hy-Vee store in Plattsmouth until 12 p.m. CDT Friday, KETV reported.
