High school Spanish teacher in Ohio accused of sexual battery

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — An Ohio high school Spanish teacher accused of sexual battery has been placed on administrative leave.

Corissa McCalister, 21, of Steubenville, a teacher at Central Catholic High School in Steubenville, was arrested Friday and charged with two counts of sexual battery, Harrison County Prosecutor Lauren Knight told WTOV.

McCalister was released from jail after posting $100,000 bail, according to WTRF.

According to Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, the mother of the alleged victim, a student at the high school, told school staff about the allegations. Harrison County Sheriff Joe Myers said the main incident occurred March 30, 2021, at the Harrison County Fairgrounds after McCalister drove the 15-year-old male student home from a track meet, WTOV reported.

Myers alleged that McCalister parked at the Harrison County Fairgrounds in Cadiz and had sex with the juvenile, WTRF reported.

McCalister is an assistant track coach and head cross-country coach at the school, the television station reported.

According to her LinkedIn profile, McCalister is a 2020 graduate of St. Francis University Loretto, Pennsylvania, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish education and minors in English literature and Spanish health services. As a senior at the university, McCalister received the 2020 Spanish Award, given to the best overall Spanish major.

“I am deeply saddened by news of the allegations and I offer my prayers for healing for the victim and the victim’s family as well as the Catholic Central school community,” Steubenville Bishop Jeffrey M. Monforton said in a news release.
