SAVANNAH, Ga. — A Georgia woman is accused of shooting a woman and kidnapping her 6-week-old twin sons from a Savannah home on Tuesday morning, authorities said.
Angela Montgomery, 23, of Rincon, was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated assault and two counts of kidnapping, according to a news release from the Savannah Police Department.
According to police, the twins, Lorenzo Rodgers and Matto Rodgers, were found unharmed, WSAV reported.
Savannah police responded at 10:20 a.m. to a residence and found Gabrielle Rodgers, 23, suffering from gunshot wounds, according to a news release. According to police, a woman, later identified as Montgomery, left the home with the twins, WTGS reported.
Rodgers was taken to an area hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, Savannah police said in its news release.
Relying on tips, Montgomery was located in nearby Effingham County, WJCL reported. She was arrested at a residence in Rincon, and the twins were located unharmed at the same home, the television station reported.
The children were taken to an area hospital for a medical evaluation, police said.
“What happened today is every mother’s worst nightmare. We are so thankful that Matto and Lorenzo were located quickly and were ultimately unharmed,” Savannah Police Chief Roy Minter said in a statement. “This was an all-hands-on-deck approach. Everyone in the Savannah area was looking for this suspect and the twins. The detectives in this case worked quickly, tracking down every available lead while working with our local, state and federal partners, but the case would not have moved as swiftly if it had not also been for the community assistance.”
