FBI releases new video footage of RNC, DNC pipe-bomb suspect

WASHINGTON — The FBI on Tuesday released new video footage of a person suspected of planting pipe bombs near the headquarters of the Democratic and Republic national committees the night before a crowd stormed into the U.S. Capitol.

The new footage depicts the person, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a mask, in four different clips, The Washington Post reported. Authorities said the person placed the pipe bombs at the sites on Jan. 5, the day before the insurrection at the Capitol.

The FBI said it was offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the suspect’s location, arrest and conviction, the newspaper reported.

The FBI also released a new wanted poster, showing the person walking along residential Capitol Hill streets and sitting on a bench, CBS News reported. The person can be seen fiddling with something at their feet.

“These pipe bombs were viable devices that could have been detonated, resulting in serious injury or death,” Steven D’Antuono, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office, said in a statement. “We need the public’s help to identify the individual responsible for placing these pipe bombs to ensure they will not harm themselves or anyone else.”

In January, the FBI issued a wanted poster of the suspect, who was wearing Nike Air Max Speed Turf shoes in yellow, black, and gray, CNN reported. The poster included enhanced photos, along with photos of the devices. Authorities believe the bombs were placed at the sites between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., the news network reported.

“The FBI is asking the public to watch the videos of this person -- you may recognize their gait, body language, or mannerisms,” the FBI said in a news release. “We are asking the public to come forward with any information that could assist us, including any odd or out-of-character behavior you noticed in a family member, friend, or co-worker, leading up to or after Jan. 5.”

Around 1 p.m. on Jan. 6, as rioters began to breach police barricades around the outer perimeter of the Capitol, two pipe bombs were found at the DNC and RNC headquarters, CBS News reported. Both headquarters were located blocks from the Capitol -- after a passerby spotted a pipe and tangle of wires near the RNC building and alerted authorities.
