Family of six, two cats found dead in Texas garage, police say

SAN ANTONIO — A family of six, including four children between the ages of 11 months to 4 years old, as well as two pet cats were found dead in an SUV in a Texas garage, investigators said.

San Antonio police went to the house for a welfare check after the husband's employer was unable to reach him, The Associated Press reported.

Responding officers were so overcome by the smell of carbon dioxide that it "kind of blew everybody back out the door," police Chief William McManus said.

Evidence indicated that it was not an accident, investigators said.

“On the door here was a note, very cryptic, some of it was military jargon, I’m told,” McManus said. “The interpretation of it was, there were people, bodies or people, inside and do not enter.”

The family, who has not been identified, had moved into the house in January. The parents were in their thirties and had military ties, but which branch was not disclosed, WOAI reported.

"It's the whole picture. The adults, the children, the pets," McManus said. "Saying it's not pretty — there's no words to describe that."
