Time may change our perception of David Bowie. But Mattel knows how to trace time.
The latest Barbie doll honoring Bowie features the powder-blue suit the singer wore in the official “Life On Mars?” music video, Billboard reported. Rounding out the doll’s wardrobe is a foil-printed pin-striped shirt, statement tie and platform shoes, according to New Musical Express.
“Hunky Dory” also included Bowie’s hit, “Changes.”
The doll is being sold for $50, according to Mattel.
The toy manufacturer first honored Bowie in 2019 with a doll from the singer’s “Space Oddity” era, New Musical Express reported. The “Ziggy Stardust” doll came complete with a spacesuit and detailed makeup effects, Billboard reported.
“It’s a tribute to Bowie -- his outfit, his makeup, his features -- to emulate his essence and make sure it looked like Barbie, but as Bowie,” designer Linda Kyaw-Merschon said in a statement.
“The whole Hunky Dory album reflected my newfound enthusiasm for this new continent that had been opened up to me,” Bowie told Rolling Stone in 1999. “That was the first time a real outside situation affected me so 100% that it changed my way of writing and the way I look at things.”
Bowie died on Jan. 10, 2016, of liver cancer, two days after the release of his 26th studio album, “Blackstar.”
